D-110: Fifth Story Apartment
Waiting in front of the door of the apartment, Adam was waiting as he heard the small hoard of children screaming on the other side of the door. To his left and right were his parents, rather normal looking people who waited for the door to crack open and let them inside.
“You have all your supplies, right darling?” His mom asked as Adam nodded, smiling over to her as she gave him that worried look he always had to ease even if his father always told her he was a good son who made sure to be prepared.
“Yep, all right here!” Patting his pouch on his side, his mother looked concerned but smiled back at him in the end. Leaning up to give him a small kiss. “It’s alright, you know if i forget something I’ll message you so it can get dropped in. You just worry about the kids with dad though, there are 5 of them, and the fluffy dog. You both will have your hands full today.”
“Alright dear, but make sure.”
Adam was rather pleased that Rayden agreed to going on a camping trip with him, a simple pleasure Adam didn’t often get to enjoy in its purest form, but lo and behold here they were. With summer vacation just starting yesterday, they even had plenty of time to enjoy it at their own pace as he knew his parents would have no trouble with the little demon spawns still so young in age.
They didn’t even mind the short notice, more than happy to take care of the kids for a few weeks if it came to that. Not that Adam thought Rayden would want to be gone that long, maybe he could persuade the blond to rest a bit as his siblings were in loving and caring hands.
“What’s taking Rayden so long!” Rai boomed from a pants pocket, sticking his head out as he huffed at the door. A small flame shot out of his nose as he did, still as impatient as ever to go explore the great outdoors and have fun.
"Me too, Me too!" the little ones squeed, clinging on to Rayden's legs. Walking back and forth in his own room, it was a little messy with some dirty clothes falling out of the hamper and a can of soda sitting on his computer desk, but it wasn't a standard high school boy's trash heap. The closet was filled with nicely folded clothes, the bed was made, and he had even pushed in the chair today, though that was mostly so the smalls on his legs wouldn't be accidently rammed into it.
On the dark blue patterned blanket, he had his bag mostly packed, just double checking that everything was there. Dragging the little forty pound demons around with him, he reached down to pat their heads, use to these things by now. "No way snot, you're too young and I bet you'll try to wipe your butt with poison ivy." An example Rayden had done before when young, and would never forget, he'd rather save his little siblings that hell.
That didn't make them whine any less as he zipped up the bag, pulling the strap over his shoulder. By the time he was able to answer the door, he had acquired two more little ones hugging around his waist, and a dragon clinging weightlessly to his back. It was about now he was glad the dark elements were more on the ghostly side. They looked up at the three visitors and smiled in turn, one of them missing a tooth.
"Huh, so that's where you get it from." Rayden blurted out, tilting his head at the male standing with Adam. Moving right on along without missing a beat though, he waved them inside. "Come on in, I'll introduce you to everyone real quick." He had written down a list of things not to let them do that he knew they'd try as well to give the pair. After, the blond would be more than happy to have a break from his siblings to be a menace to the wilderness! Even if he had to go with Adam, the flirtatious redhead wasn't thaaat hard to deal with. That or Rayden was starting to accept his life more.
“Be calm, Rai. Rayden has many siblings he has to pack the bags for and get ready himself, you don't want the trip cut short, do you?” The older redhead male asked, his hair broighter in color compared to the younger male’s hair and without a doubt where Adam got his fiery hair color from. His father’s hands were folded behind his own back, only moving then as his wife came closer with still some worry about their young one who was already so grown up and heading out into the world. Granted, Adam had been out and into the world since his high school years and had only recently returned to see his parents face to face. An odd situation for most, but for the independent boy it worried his parents not as long as he still answered their calls.
All the same, the gentle reminder that there was a lot to do soothed over the dragon, getting another huff as he slipped back into Adam’s pocket and left just a lump there, wiggling around until his tail was sticking out. Adam knew he’d roll back around once inside, but for now this was acceptable.
As the door was flung open to what looked like a Rayden covered in child armour, the trio headed in and the door was closed behind them. Cooing at the sweet smalls who were oh so sad to see their big brother go for a short time, Adam was looking forward to his time with the blond.
“Kids, these are my parents, Catalina and Achille.” With the easy part done, Adam leaned down to start picking up the children, son he covered in small adorables so Rayden could go collect anything else he needed. “And these little demon spawns are: Samantha, Troy, Neil, Erica and Oliver.” As he listed them off, he used a vaguely free arm to pat their heads, of course being careful of any horns or point things like bow clips or barrettes.
“Rai demands flaked frosties!” Adams pocket started screeching, getting a deep sigh from Adam as he wiggled the kids to his parents so he could go to the kitchen, it was still kind of a mess, but with his parents taking the kids off first he didn’t mind hanging around a little more to make sure the house was clean before they left.
“So demanding today, we’re going out into the wild soon. Frosted Flakes aren’t wild you know...” But he was weak to pleasing his dragon, at times too weak.
The kids easily piling onto Adam, he was clearly the next in line to get their sad farewells and questions to come along with as a not-really-but-still-big-brother brother. He gave in so much easier than the blond that had been taking care of them their whole lives already. They were secretly good children though and soon began chattering with Catalina and Achille, half of them calling the pair Mises Cat and Mister Achoo. It was just easier, especially for the one missing a tooth.
Free to do as he pleased now, Rayden wandered back to the bathroom briefly to grab his toothbrush, nearly forgetting the thing but glad he had a moment to remember. Darkness still attached to his back, he grabbed up his own toothbrush and stuffed it inside the cloudy black mass that was their body. They tended to do the same thing with their arms, especially around the kids. Rayden couldn't help but wonder what in the world happened to the things though. Was it like another dimension? Was it temperature controlled? Could he store food in himself without it being eaten? These were questions he wasn't sure if he wanted to know or not.
"You wanna just take the entire box with us?" He asked as he rounded the corner back into the kitchen with Adam. "You'll have to carry it and bring back another for the kids, but it won't kill them to eat the healthy one while I'm gone." Most that being because of the fact that he wasn't going to have to be the one to make them eat it.
“I think just a small baggy will do for him, he doesn’t need to have so much sweets.” Taking a small sandwich bag from the cupboard that was usually used for meat and prep storage, Rai huffed but was happily sticking his head in the box. Hind legs wiggling along with his tail as he could be heard crunching away.
“You’re not one to talk!” The box boomed, but as Adam tilted it, the small fire dragon came back out and laid on the table munching away loudly at his rider who was depriving him of sweet cereal goodness.
“All the same, let’s get your stuff and head out now. Don’t want to get there too late. Need time to set up the things.” Stuffing the baggy of cereal into the pouch and scooping Rai up to go back in the pocket, he paused to stare at the blanket and pillow combo a top the bags, which left him blinking, but shrugging it off he just picked them up and rolled them up tight so they’d fit in carry on shuttle attached to the motorcycle. They had places to be and trees to see, and with the kids happy to accept his wonderful parents, now was their time to flee.
