D-137: Nowhere

Theme: Everywhere and Nowhere All at Once

Was it here? Was it there? What exactly was it? It was nothing and nowhere and yet it was a home. How did it get here? How does it get there? That happens to be none of your concern and yet you ask but Mist has no answers for you weary traveler but by all means come in. You enter and it’s…a house? A mansion? It feels as if it’s changing every time you glance around, you turn to ask Mist something again, “Where ARE we?”

She smiles slyly, “My home of course.” You roll your eyes, it’s clearly not the answer you’re looking for but Mist is well aware, she’s clearly messing with you. You sigh and decide against asking again but angrier, perhaps you should just leave, yes? You slam your hands upon the table and get up without a word and turn to the front door to leave and…Mists eyebrows furrow, that was rather rude. Your mouth falls open as you stare at the front door or well…lack of front door, the door was gone, why was the door gone! Perhaps it was Mists doing, perhaps it was the nowhere’s doing or perhaps there was never a door to begin with?

“I do not believe the house likes your…lack of respect.” The house, that once felt rather comfortable had turned cold and the air seemed almost irritated, if that was possible. Could…nowhere be alive? A house that was a living breathing being? Was that the slight breeze that would blow through its calm, warm halls? Maybe but your questions wouldn’t matter anymore, you’ve clearly messed up. You apologize profusely, you were just curious and you lost a little control at the lack of a clear answer. Mist nods, almost understandingly and when you turn away from the cat the door is back and you double take, “What just happened?” Had you perhaps hallucinated the door disappearing, was it something she gave you to drink? That’s what you wanted to believe but deep down you know the door clearly disappeared and reappeared. Regardless you leave and you tell yourself you will NEVER go back there again but you need not worry, there’s a good chance the house will be gone if you ever wish to go back for one reason or another.
