V did not experience "childhood", being coddled by an opressive and tyrant father will never count as one in his mind. Instead, he was forced to go through unrelenting discipline and many unfortunate experiences in order to shape him into what the man saw fit. The tender moments in his young years were few and far between. His dragon believes that is what influenced his now anti-social behavior and general lack of empathy for most residents of the Chronoscape. Those who have learned to live with him though, get his utmost respect and undying loyalty.
