Despite looking just like a regular inhabitant of Shérok, Chao originally came from the depths of the Chronoscape - but the events that lead to him getting stranded on precisely this planet will, at least for now, remain a mystery to everyone. While Chao appears to remember what happened, not even the most determined prying won't get that secret out of him; only the supernatural strength of his body and the jade shimmer in his eyes seem to hint that he's not exactly... normal.
Whatever he is, those who've seen or heard of him know him as that weirdly strong sculptor from the southwestern rainforests. He doesn't show his face in public that often, but likes to keep in touch with the world through the visitors that come every now and then. Many are interested in his art, as it has a reputation for being extravagant, unique and mesmerizing, other than slightly otherworldly, but the payment he asks for isn't money; he simply has no use for it. Instead, he accepts new crafting materials (especially if it's a material unknown to him! he loves challenges) and knowledge, but in certain cases, pleasant company is enough of a reason for him to make gifts.
Chao's working process is as chaotic as it is methodical. While he works with perfect skill and experience, his inspiration is spontaneous and extremely specific. When it strikes, he can't bring himself to do anything else and will work for hours and days on end to finish something, leading to similarly long recovery periods.
In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the forests surrounding his home, bathing in the nearby river or sculpting garbage to de-stress. When he has visitors, he'll often engage them in smalltalk or profound conversations (depending on their attitude) to satisfy his curiosity, especially interested in hearing of other peoples, cities and countries: if a foreign place sounds interesting enough to him, he might decide to travel there to see it for himself.
Generally, he's kind and friendly and very respectful of nature and all life, but also a huge goofball - he finds too much seriousness exhausting and always tries to make others smile.

On a side note - he's really, really strong and loves showing his physical skills off at any given opportunity (wrestling dragons, for example). But he's not just athletic, but a talented acrobat as well!!
