"Where do the limits of science lie?"
To answer such a question, someone with a solid moral compass will perhaps say that scientific progress cannot walk the path of pain and death - hurting others for discoveries would be ethically abysmal. But, as proven over and over again through history, not everyone agrees with this opinion... and, well, you probably already figured that Amber is one of those scientists.
As a genetic engineer and biologist, she found her calling in the branche with the worst possible consequences for her test subjects, but it's not like she'd let cowardly ideals like ethics stop her from going places no one should be going to. She experiments with living creatures with the same cold, methodical curiosity one would take a machine apart with, studying and rearranging parts as she sees fit or combining them with the robots she builds herself as well; and throughout the years she's managed to produce a proud number of living hybrids and cyborgs in her hidden laboratories. Since the minds of those poor creatures tend to get destroyed in the torture they went through, Amber usually re-programs their brains, effectively creating her own assistants - but in some rare cases, they're allowed to keep their own will if they learn to cope. But they can't leave.
Amber understandably lives her life in hiding, but she's been very good at that so far. In the rare occasion of her paying a visit to society, she only appears in disguise; however, if she finds someone with similar goals and interests, she might approach them - discreetly - in hopes of funding and support. The Chronoscape, as diverse and vast as it is, has become a metaphorical treasure chest for her in that regard.
The subject of dragons has become a great interest for her as soon as she discovered them - while also keen on experimenting with them, especially interested in the bonds between dragons and their riders, she's rather interested in acquiring her own 'collection' as well.
