[Gift] Guiding Lights

Smaragdus surged through the waters, his powerful body able to cut through the storm tossed waters as midwinter continued to grip the area, from the snow covered land to the frigid waters, the encroaching darkness making it difficult for any ships to see. For the once great lighthouse that once stood tall had had fallen, collapsing as the shore fell into the waters below… Making any run at this coast a gauntlet.

The dragon slowed, the magic imbued lanterns adorning his horns as he spotted the dark shape of a ship, it’s hull weaving in the waters as the crew tried to it afloat. A single flash of light as the crew spotted him and Smaragdus picked up speed again, slipping closer to ship, slightly in front and the left, between the vessel and the deadly rocks that covered the coastline. A guiding light amidst the dark ocean. He kept apace, wings flared beneath the waters to keep himself steady as the ship adjusted its course, using the light the dragon provided to make its way closer to the port.

And the mighty dragon wasn’t the only one, across the entire expanse that used to be covered by the downed lighthouse, dragons with oceanic heritage had been employed, to carry lanterns, magic, not flame powered so that they were unaffected by the waters as it covered them.

Smaragdus slowed, spotting the signal for wait, next to him the ship adjusted its speed, the dragon watched as another ship and its guide entered the port, he reached with a wing underneath the water to slow his current target further. Time seemed to slow as the ship continued to move on the waters, left and right, up and down as the ocean surged around them.

Finally a flash, a signal to move forward, the ship moved towards the port, it’s guiding light continuing to swim beside them, only once it was safely docked would the magic be renewed, and Smaragdus be sent back out, to be a guiding light for another.
