FotN '21: Guiding Light

The storm blew in quite unexpectedly, dark thunderheads building and crowding the sky over Salvus in what seemed like a matter of minutes. Since it had seemed like such a nice day, Teeba’s many dragons had ranged out to do whatever they wanted: fishing in the river, climbing the nearby hills, or scouting through the forest for food or objects of interest that passersby might have left behind.

With the storm fast approaching, many were already on their way back, eager to take shelter. Teeba was reasonably sure that most — if not all — of them knew their way home, but Teeba’s opinion was not at the forefront of Saffron’s mind.

Why, it wouldn’t do for anyone to become lost when she was so readily available to lead them back! With a buzz of her wings, she leaped into the air, shining scales gleaming with the sparse light that made it through the clouds. Would that she were a Light dragon and could make herself glow like a star… but never mind! She could turn, making sure that the light had every chance to bounce this way and that into the hills, into the woods, guiding the poor other wayward dragons home and giving them quite the sight to look upon in the process!

She thought, for a moment, that she might descend and grab her bags of glitter, but then she saw the first straggler fly in from between the trees and felt a swell of pride in her chest for all her hard work, for the good deed she was doing for the poor dear ships in search of their familiar harbor, pitching on the harsh sea of strange terrain as if their metaphorical boats might splinter at any moment should they lose their will to keep searching, to follow her beacon back to Salvus, to salvation, to home.

Elsewhere, Teeba pinched the bridge of his nose and quietly filtered out the excess noise from Saffron and began the tedious work of checking who had already made it back home and who was still on their way.
