[Gift] Fly With Me - Butterfly x Midori Courtship Lit

Butterfly fluttered his wings nervously as he stood atop the hill, glancing about with ever-growing anxiety. The sky was only just turning from the dark of night to a lighter shade of purple-pink as morning was beginning to make its imminent arrival known. The Jungle dragon shuffled in place and shivered as a cold breeze whisked past him, tired and more than a little chilly in this early Spring weather.

'Where can she be?' he couldn't help but think to himself as he continuously looked around the hill in all directions. He was supposed to meet a dragon on top of the hill early this morning, for a date. And it was his first date EVER! He'd hardly gotten any rest the previous night, although his anxiety over the coming meeting, and worrying endlessly about how it would go, or if she would even show up at all, kept him from being too sleepy right now.

The feathers covering his head, nape and tail fluttered as another breeze blew past. He tried to ignore the chill, focusing on what he knew about his upcoming date. All he knew about her was that her name was Midori, and she was described as green and white striped, and very pretty. She was a Light dragon, and, he was pretty sure Storm too? Honestly, being told he was going to get to spend time with a female dragon, as a DATE kind of situation, had tied him in so many knots that it was a wonder that he'd registered hearing anything about Midori at all.

What did he know about females, anyways? His Rider Elicia had a few female dragons, but never in his wildest dreams did Butterfly think he'd ever be brave enough to approach a female dragon in any sort of romantic fashion and expect it to be successful! What if this Midori didn't even like him? What if she took one look at him, at his scrawny, birdlike legs, his overly-cutesy face, his six thin wings... the last pair of which were too small to even aid him in flight at all! Looking himself over, he sighed and seated himself in the waving grass, watching it glumly.

Should he have brough her a gift, maybe? Perhaps that would have been appropriate. Perhaps, she'd even expect one? Oh, no... Oh, what if she was displeased because he'd brought her nothing!? His eyes widened and he stood up again in a sudden panic. Did he have time to go back to get something? No, no, he couldn't, because then what if he missed her and she got mad and left and he lost his chance to make a decent impression on her? He didn't even know what a Light dragon like her would like! Gems? Jewels? Most dragons liked those, but Butterfly had no idea where to obtain any on such short notice, so that was clearly out of the question. Flowers? Maybe... He glanced down at the white hibiscus flowers sprouting from his chest. Would that be... maybe a bit too weird? He looked around, certain he'd seen other flowers nearby... Oh, some red ones down the hill a ways... He started towards them, then stopped. No... No, maybe because she was part Storm dragon... What if she didn't even LIKE flowers? Fretting, he turned around, only to freeze as he spotted a dragon approaching from the east.

When had the sky lightened so much? How had he not noticed? But then, how could he notice anything but the beautiful dragon ascending the hill, her dappled and striped green and white fur rustling in the breeze, her four legs tipped with hooves that she walked with so gracefully, the massive pair of leather wings she was holding close to her body, then lifting, the sun just beginning to peek over the distant horizon turning them almost translucent, her long, pretty ears... Even her slender snout, which ended with the cutest little upturned nose.

He couldn't stop staring, and it took him a moment to realize she had stopped, and was now only a few feet away, and speaking to him. SPEAKING. To HIM. WHAT?

"I... Uh... Hi?" he queried, his voice breaking with a sudden resurgence of nerves. Oh no... What had she said to him? He hadn't heard at all! Oh no, oh no, oh no...

Surprisingly, she let out a soft giggle and smiled at him. "Hello," she replied. HOLY... A GIRL DRAGON was SMILING at HIM. And TALKING to HIM. HIM. BUTTERFLY. WHAT.

He could literally do nothing to stop the goofy grin that spread across his face in response to her smile. Nor could he stop the sudden blooming of several huge white flowers the hibiscus plant on his chest made in response to his reaction.

She watched him for a moment, and it took him a few seconds to realize his mouth was agape, and he snapped it shut. "Uh... Um... I'm Butterfly." 'Duh! So smooth, Butterfly,' he inwardly chastised himself.

"I figured," she answered with another small giggle. "And I'm Midori."

"Uh... Uh-huh..." He gulped, smiling again. Were her eyes PURPLE? They were so pretty! Ugh, but could his face NOT look perpetually like a lovesick idiot? Please and thank you! He struggled to try and look normal. He doubted it was working, though.

"I, uh... It's great to meet you," he begin, forcing the words out in an attempt to avoid an awkward silence. Could she tell how terribly nervous he was? He hoped not. "I, uh... I'm sorry I didn't bring anything special..." Crud... Why did he say THAT? He must look so lame to her!

She surprised him again, her eyes widening and the light on the tip of her tail flickering a bit. "Oh, no, you didn't have to bring me anything, don't worry!" She peered at him for a moment, and he felt every fraction of a second of her scrutenization before she spoke again. "Is this your first... outing like this?"

OH NO, SHE KNEW!!! She could TELL! Butterfly tried not to look as stricken as he felt at her observation. "I... Y- yes..." he said, glancing down at his feet and trying not to fidget. He must look like such an inexperienced fool in front of this beautiful dragon... Before he could say anything more, however, OR feel any more sorry for himself, she took a couple of steps closer. He looked up to see her face almost INCHES from his, and he froze again with wide eyes.

Her expression... was not judgemental in the slightest! If anything, it looked as though she wished to put him at ease with her gentle gaze. The light at the tip of her tail was softly, steadily glowing now. "Butterfly, would you like to go flying with me this morning?"

Was it possible for actual butterflies, the insect kind, not him, to spring to life inside his belly and flutter around in there? Because he felt like he had those right now. In abundance. "Uh... S- Sure! I'd... really love to fly with you!" Wait... Was "love" too strong a word? Should he have said "like" instead? What if she-

He jolted in shock as she touched her nose to his with a soft hum of a chuckle, then spread her wings and shot into the ever-lightening sky, leaving him gaping after her in disbelief. "Heehee, come on then, slowpoke!" she giggled, circling him briefly before she took off toward the sunrise.

He stared after her, dumbfounded, before coming back to himself, spreading his wings, and following her into the sky. Wow... She was just... She was so... For the first time since he'd arrived on the hill earlier, his nerves seemed to begin to settle. Maybe... Maybe this was going to go okay after all. Maybe... Maybe he just needed to let himself relax, be himself, and see where the day took them. Maybe, that was all he needed to do. He finally smiled, a real, genuine Butterfly smile, and shot after her with a cheerful, "Wait up!"
