[Trade] Of clouds and robins - providence trial
Cirrus sprawled out, her feathers absorbing the last of the sunlight and warming her up. After the last trial she was just glad to not be cold. Her companion looked over, an amused tone to his voice. “You are aware that’s not the most flattering look?” His talons carefully testing his bow checking it over to make sure it had taken no damage . “I don’t care.” Cirrus singsonged back. “It’s so warm..” she ‘floofed’ out even further as the sun continued to drop.
Though the third part of their trial hovered, neither was in any rush both dragons still feeling the need to recover from the freezing waters they’d traversed earlier. Plus Robin had foreknowledge of a large herd they meandered through the canyon to the small pool, the shadows of the earthen wall sheltering them from predators , even more so as darkness descended…
Cirrus finally moved as the last rays of sunshine faded, shaking herself as she stood up amidst the lengthening shadows. Moments later the faint sound of hooves echoed the the canyon, the vast horde appearing from underneath the shadows of a floating isle, the earth anchored to the ground by intertwining vines. Neither dragon moved except to make sure the herd did not spot them.
The plan was simple, Cirrus would charge down and attack the herd, causing confusion and panic amongst the herd beasts. Robin would remain on the top of the canyon walls, using his archery skills to take down prey from a distance . This vantage point would also allow him to keep a eye out… they were not the only predators after all.
Waiting only until the herd had passed their vantage point, Cirrus leapt down, though not able to fly she could and did use her wings to slow her descent until her talons touched the earthen walls. Pebbles scattering from the force, she didn’t wait instead increasing her speed, dust rising behind her as she shrieked.
The herd looked up, a uneasy movement among them before they responded, mothers and calves moving into the sheltered middle, and the other… standing guard. That was fine with Cirrus, it was the bulls they were after. The dragon didn’t halt as the canyon wall touched the bottom, rather she used her momentum combines with her earth earthen strength to ram the outer herd, scattering them and taking down one in the process, mere moments later arrows took out a second bull.. the herd scattered, panicked bleats echoing through the canyon.
Robin swiftly nocked another arrow, his gaze scanning the wider area in case the herds cries had attracted others. His attention returned to the herd, watching as the dark coloured avian dragon chased after the herd. Moving targets were harder, even more so as the winds changed. Responding to the change in direction he loosed another few arrows, taking down an older beast that was lagging. He clicked, preparing to loose another to finish them off, not wanting to leave the beast in pain. A cloud moved amongst them as his arrow was freed, Cirrus finishing the old one off as his arrow struck true, showing that she was aware of his actions as much as her own.
Robin made his way down the canyon walls, the bow and quiver held securely. The herd had moved further up the valley following a further 3 kills. They wanted to they could take a few more, but the several beasts they’d taken down was more than enough for the two of them … and for their dens as well. “A good hunt.” Robin said. Cirrus nodde…. Now to get their haul back.
