No longer alone

The light in the testing room was dimmer now than it had been when Zeta had last entered, the blue glow flickering as the chimera looked at what lay before her. An egg.... and while she'd never seen one she knew what it was, a shell that encased another living creature.... and this shell seemed to tug at her,  urging her forward. She cocked her head, hair falling over face to hide it as she looked at it, tail sweeping in her agitation and brushing against the counters. She tugged at her clothes, observing it; nervous, she didn't like been here if she could help it, painful memories surging to the forefront of her mind; the pain, the monotonous commands, the sheer exhaustions.... and the fear of what was to come next.

A sudden crack echoed in the room and Zeta stumbled back, falling to the floor and sweeping her tail in front to protect herself; watching as the egg shattered, liquids flowing over the counter in this side room, one she hadn't even known existed before the egg pulled her here.  As the chimera hugged herself, something moved within the remnants of the egg; a skeletal head moving as it... she wiggled her way free of the shell, her body creeping forwards and tumbling of the counter, bones visible in its goopy body.

Her heart beating rapidly, Zeta watched it move as it.. she righted herself, a long metallic object piercing its flesh. Zeta took a breath, waiting for it to yelp in pain... her own memories rising again. To her surprise, the creature all but ignored it, wobbling towards her on its stubby limbs; the spots seeming to move on the not so stable body. Realizing its target was her, Zeta flinched, physical contact had always been accompanied by pain, the hatchling paid no attention, continuing to waddle in her direction, a trail of hatching fluids left in its wake.

Zeta could of gotten away, the little one after all was not quick; she could even of pushed it away, her strength greater than her form would suggest... but....she didn't..... she.... couldn't.

By the time it reached the chimera, whose tail lay limp around her the body had dried... or least it was no longer covered in its hatching fluids and with no fear or hesitation it crawled onto the chimera's lap, the metal object angled away from them  Zeta froze, the unfamiliar pressure, the touch of skin against skin was painful in its unfamiliarity... and yet, something bubbled within her, the tears from her eyes was not from the pain, but rather from the unfamiliar warmth and acceptance that from the hatchlings cool body.

The hatchling took a breath, the skeletal jaw opening as the goopy body expanded, revealing a second object within. Zeta sat there, tears dripping... and at a complete loss on what to do as it seemed to cuddle closer. Even before the masters had stopped moving, life no longer flowing through their forms Zeta had been alone. it.. her eyes peered up at the chimera, as she laid her head on Zeta's arm, For how long Zeta sat there she couldn't say, but eventually the room began to get to her; carefully she stood up, the hatchling held close in her arms as she did so, the warmth .. still frightfully new and in a way painful as she headed back to her cell. As her feet padded along the dimly lit corridor her gaze landed on the empty cell near her own, but it didn't feel right to put the hatchling there; she slipped into her cell, sitting down on the frame that she slept on, the hatchling snoozing in her arms..
