Quake was surprised at the sheer amount of people and dragons she could see in the distance. Her rider, Flash, was flying next to her, and they were here on the farm to trade for some food to stockpile for the festive season. Even though she had expected a fair few people- of course, this was harvest season after all, surely a farm would be at its most popular at this time- what she did not expect was the masses of colourful scales and feathers and fur that crowded the entrance to the buying line.

As they landed, Flash made the executive decision right there and then that he was going to be suffering through the line alone, and let Quake run free and check out what else is in the farm, as long as she stays within telepathy-shot of him. She agreed, because who wouldn’t pass down a chance to explore a bit and not have to wait in that crowded line! Turning to the expanse of ground before her, she could see the fields and orchards of the farm in the distance, as well as the rocky gravel beneath her claws. A large pond was to her right, shrouded by some trees, and out of the corner of her eye Quake swears she saw a fox or rabbit dart past in the undergrowth. It was quite a nice area, but then she spotted movement- in the water?

Quickly running towards the pond, she skidded to a halt a few seconds before she would plunge right in. As much as she enjoyed exploring, she did not in fact want to get her head wet, and who knows what could be in the water. Speaking of that…

A green head popped up from the centre of the lake, and Quake recognised it as the head of a dragon. The other dragon’s crest frilled up in interest, before quickly diving down again with a flourish of her fluffy tail. Quake, interested, decided to call out to her- no response. She supposed the other dragon must be underwater and couldn’t hear her. But when she asked again while the other dragon had half her body out of the water, she still didn’t receive a reply, but she wasn’t too bummed out by that. She’s probably just not used to talking to random dragons, Flash chimed in in her head, surprising her with his voice before she realised that it made perfect sense. That’s fair, I get that!

Quake waved a wing at Flash, who was by now halfway through the gods-forsaken line. He waved back, and she turned back to the interesting new dragon. That raises another question. Quake was almost certain the green dragon was an Earth dragon like her, so what would an Earth dragon be doing in the water?

She narrowed her eyes and stared at the water some more. Antennae twitching, she sensed more movement in the water. She initially thought it was the Earth dragon again, but nope- the green dragon was on the other side. With a fish in her jaws. That explains it!

Turns out that the other dragon was indeed fishing in the pond. Quake watched the other dragon dive down again, creating ripples in the surface of the water, before emerging with a wriggling eel-like creature in her jaws. She shook off her long chest fur and dropped the fish in a basket that Quake hadn’t spotted before until now, inspected the fish carefully, then dove back down for more. Quake was quite intriguing- she couldn’t dive into the water because she didn’t want to get her head wet, but perhaps there was another way to catch some fish here as well.

By now, Flash had returned, and curled a wing around her in greeting. “What are you thinking about?” He asked her.

She stared at the water a moment longer. “I’m just wondering if I could fish with my claws.”
