Expeditions 2024

What are Expeditions?
Expeditions are special prompts that are unlocked by using a Chronocompass. Expedition prompts and prizes are related to your character. The more developed they are in the game, the more likely they are to have rare prompts and succeed in their quests. For this reason, Riders with high prestige and Dragons with more Rites and EXP will be able to gain much more out of Expeditions. These are a type of Activity and follow regular activity rules.

Some prompts have options/ideas for how to react to them. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE OPTIONAL. You can always journey off the beaten path. If your character does something completely unexpected in response to the prompt, a new response or even branching path for a Journey might be created. In this case, you will be told you are the first to take the path at the end of the prompt or response. Please note that Expeditions are dangerous and can result in Negative Status Effects upon completion. The best way to avoid these is to train a dragon's stats.

F.A.Q.

How do I get a Chronocompass?
Chronocompasses have a small chance of dropping at the end of an Adventure for dragons that have their Rite of Passage completed as well as any Riders accompanying them. During beta, this is 50%, but it will be lowered once testing is over. If you fail to gain a Chronocompass, you will get a Red Herring instead. This has a very, very rare chance of opening into a Basic Lure, but is otherwise trash. If you do not receive a Red Herring or Chronocompass after an adventure and you are sure your dragon has their Rite of Passage completed, make a claim with a link to the submission and it will be rolled. When redeeming, the character that activated the prompt will be the one who gains the Expedition.

If I get a Chronocompass, am I required to do the Expedition? Can I only do one Expedition at a time?
No, you are not required. You may delete the items if you find they are clogging your inventory. You can also save them for as long as you like or even redeem them back-to-back without completing others.

Is there a way to increase the chance of Expeditions?
Not currently. Once it graduates from beta and the drop rate is lowered, there will be Equipment and Familiars to help with encounters.

What sort of buffs are available?
The more you develop your character, the more rewarding Expeditions will be for them. There are also a few other ways to help with Expeditions:

  • Keywords: Some expeditions only show up in special conditions. In example, a image that has rocks and boulders is more likely to receive Expeditions in mountainous territory. When rolling, many keywords are entered automatically, but if you want to be sure one or more are considered, please place it here.
  • Familiars: Vixen, Lucky Duck, Black Cat, Border Collie
  • Item Buffs: You may include one item per Expedition. It may be any item. Different items have secret effects--some items may prevent injury or status effects; others might increase the rarity of the prize even more than usual. Items without secret effects with will increase the reward rarity by their AP Exchange amount.

Can I use Familiar Search Tools?
No, you cannot use search tools during Expeditions. However, there are exclusive Familiars to be found in the wilderness! A Rancher is more likely to encounter these Familiars.

How do I know which submission I am redeeming?
When you click on the Chronocompass in your inventory, there are details about your item sources. By clicking on your items, you will see which submission dropped it. You can check which art piece and character it was by clicking the number or by going here: https://www.chronocompass.com/submissions/view/IDNUMBERHERE . If you turned in a sheet or compilation with multiple images/characters, the Chronocompasses will be merged in your inventory and count as one. The piece and character selected from the sheet to start the expedition will be random. If you would like to avoid this, turn them in one image and character at a time.

Here is a very short video gif showing how to do it.

Can I trade, sell, or gift my Chronocompasses?
No, they are locked to the player that originally received one.

What if I got my Chronocompass from an event?
If you received a Chronocompass from an event, you may choose the character that goes on the expedition.

I threw away a Chronocompass. Can I get it back?
No. Any deleted items in the game are gone for good.
