Not everyone starts out as a breeder. In fact, most people don’t start out as a breeder. Even fewer people happen upon an egg in the middle of nowhere. How do these people obtain their own dragons and become a Rider? This is your place to tell their story! If they manage to impress a dragon or two, they will be rewarded with a dragon egg. This quest allows you to get a dragon for free. It will be tailored to the character that you develop throughout the quest! You do not need an official Rider to do this quest (they will be made official when you upload the dragon). When uploading new Riders with their dragon, the Rider will need to have one matching element to the dragon. This quest may be completed once per month.
If you draw these prompts, they must be fully colored, shaded, and include a background. Written prompts must be at least 600 words. For all prompts, you may make up your own dragon designs or use any dragons with their gift art set to open! To complete the quest, do three of the following prompts:
1) Draw or write about your character seeing a dragon for the first time or interacting with a new dragon. Do they love them? Hate them? Are they afraid? Most people see a dragon for the first time when they are children, but people in urban regions might go for a while without seeing them. | 2) Draw or write about your character working with dragons. This typically means doing menial work in the stables, helping them prepare for the races, arming them for battle, and so on. How does your character handle tasks like these? Remember that the personality of your character affects the element they receive in the end! You can pick your character’s permanent job later. | 3) Draw or write about your character earning the trust or respect of a dragon. Different elements appreciate different things, so go through the lore section and find out how to impress your favorite element. Its element(s) have a chance of influencing the dragon you receive, but this is not guaranteed. | 4) Draw or write about your character finding or taking care of an egg. Your character will be drawn to an egg and know that the dragon inside will be theirs. It is customary to keep the egg near their owner at all times to help their bond grow even before the hatching occurs. Dragon eggs are a little bigger than ostrich eggs (typical “party balloon” size). They have the weight of a large stone, making them highly durable, but difficult to carry. You may choose to have the appearance of the egg affect the element (see below). |
5) Your character keeps seeing a dragon in their dreams. Depict them in their dream or trying to find this dragon in the waking world! | 6) A dragon asks your character for help. Depict your character interacting with the dragon, whether they help them or not. | 7) Depict your character training to become a Rider. They can become an apprentice to a Rider, raise lizards and horses, or anything else they think would prepare them for a dragon. | 8) Your character already knows they want to be a Rider, and they think they know what element they will get! Depict your character purposely trying to get an element. This does not guarantee the element at the end of the quest. |
Dragons can optionally hatch from materials that match their element. If you depict your Rider receiving an egg, here are the materials that affect results:
Light: Diamond
Fire: Ruby
Jungle: Citrine
Thunder: Topaz
Earth: Emerald
Ocean: Turquoise
Storm: Sapphire
Wind: Amethyst
Dark: Onyx
Metal: Silver
By using these materials, at least one of the elements will match them. If you want a completely random result, you can use an unconventional material (Tourmaline, Quartz, etc.) or have the egg colored like any natural bird egg. Tan (chickens), blue with speckles (robins), and even white with black swaths (vermilion flycatcher) work.
About Generated Eggs: An rare egg is generated and they are guaranteed to have two elements that a mod picks out for you.
Using an Old Rider?: If an uploaded Rider is doing the quest, at least one element is guaranteed to match one of their uploaded elements.

Now, just hit submit and wait! A moderator will roll your dragon for you. Dragons obtained from the Hatchery Quest cannot be traded or sold until they have been uploaded. They also must be uploaded with their Hatchery Quest Rider (if the Rider doesn't exist yet, provide the Rider info). A dragon hatched from a hatchery quest will receive 25 extra EXP to start with! Riders that complete the Hatchery Quest must have a matching element if they want to raise the egg, so only complete this quest if you are open to all element possibilities for your Rider.
