Novice Crafting – Alchemist
x1 Beautiful Shell, x5 Skittercritter
Allows you to change the color of several traits. It adds one color, which may be placed on as a solid color or a gradient. When adding multiple colors to a gradient, you must use one Skittertint per extra color. The colors added may be from any palette–in example, you could dye the wings of a pure Dark dragon bright white. Skittertint does not need to be applied symmetrically. It is applied on top of the trait and will solidly cover the area (unless using the translucent option). It cannot not completely hide traits.
Skittertint only affects one feature at a time. For example, applying it to a pair of wings will not cause it to appear on the fins of the dragon. It does not change the shape of what it colors.
The traits are affected in different ways, so make sure to use CTRL+F and find something if you are uncertain. Some traits appear multiple times--that means you can use either one of the dye options! Skittertint cannot be used on any Display Traits.
Solid Skittertint:
Spikes, Star Pearl, Bearded, Heraldry, Phoenix, Double Crest, Claws, Tongue, Pawpads, Thorned Spine, Dorsal Spines, Antennae, Electric, Glitch, Coils, Halo, Whiskers, Neckfrill, Fanged, Club Tail, Maned, Torrent, Fins, Hooves, Many-finned, Pelvic Fins, Dorsal Fin, Gilled, Avalanche, Bumble, Odd Ears, Webbed Tail, Cirrus, Plumes, Beaked, Beaks, Celestial, Plating, Shell, Artificial Wings, Feathered Wings, Insect Wings (see below), Leather Wings, Scythe Wings, Raptor Tail
-
Gradient Skittertint:
Spikes, Star Pearl, Bearded, Heraldry, Phoenix, Double Crest, Tongue, Pawpads, Aegis, Thorned Spine, Dorsal Spines, Antennae, Electric, Glitch, Coils, Halo, Whiskers, Neckfrill, Fanged, Club Tail, Maned, Torrent, Fins, Hooves, Tentacles, Many-finned, Pelvic Fins, Dorsal Fin, Gilled, Avalanche, Bumble, Odd Ears, Webbed Tail, Cirrus, Plumes, Beaked, Beaks, Celestial, Plating, Shell, Artificial Wings, Feathered Wings, Insect Wings (see below), Leather Wings, Scythe Wings
These traits may have the color applied as a smooth gradient. For each extra color in the gradient, you will need an extra skittertint.
-
Banded skittertint:
Bearded, Heraldry, Claws, Tongue, Pawpads, Aegis, Spaded Tail, Antennae, Glitch, Coils, Whiskers, Fanged, Club Tail, Maned, Dorsal Fin, Odd Ears, Plumes, Beaked, Scythe Wings
Bands will have a solid or soft edge. When using multiple bands of the same color, they cannot have a gradient edge. The bands will not curve unless the trait itself is curving (such as a curly mane).
Translucent Skittertint:
Skittertint can be 'watered down' and allow traits underneath to show through. When this happens, the marks can have their color adjusted, but their true color should be visible somewhere outside of the Skittertint. If the entire mark is obscured by Skittertint, then a second reference is needed. This is the only way Skittertint affects display traits.
Unaffected by Skittertint:
These traits are not affected by Skittertint in any way, shape, or form. Do not attempt to use Skittertint on one of these traits. Check to see if there are exceptions in Special Interactions.
Radiance, Iridescence, Spectrum, Bioluminescence, Translucent, Insectified, Floral Parasite, Frog Throat, Miniature, Disassembly, Display, Jeweled, Brawn, Protofeathers, Debris, Split Tail, Tailless, Curled, Frilled, Companion, Multi-limbed, Transparent Skin, True Sight, Wither, Tattered, Treasure, Engraved, Shimmer, Gilded, Sheen, Snouts, Eyes, Skin, Scales, Limbs, Tails,
Special Interactions:
- In the presence of multiple wings (such as dragons with Multi-Winged or Insect Wings), then a skittertint will be needed for each affected pair.
- In situations where there are multiple parts of a trait, you may choose Skittertint to affect those parts differently. In example, making only one or two Phoenix flames blue, and the rest their normal color; Or you may choose for one set of Many-finned to be blue, and the rest to be regularly colored, and so on.
- Magic effects may be dyed a solid color or gradient.
- The wings of Swarm, Seraph, and Cirrus may be affected by Skittertint.
- The Plumes of Cirrus can be banded.
- The feathers of Raptor Tail may be affected as a Solid Color or Gradient.
- The tuft of Tufted Tail may be dyed in a solid, gradient, or banded pattern with Skittertint.
- If a trait has both leather and bone involved (such as Dorsal Spine leather and the spines themselves), you may also choose for one or the other to be affected. In example, you can have bright blue leather and normally colored spines.
- Skittertint may affect each 'layer' of Feathered Wings and Raptor Tail in a different pattern (such as solid in one area, and gradient in another).
- Some traits, such as Floral Parasite or the fish of Torrent, do not require a Skittertint to be oddly colored.
- The fins of Capricorn can be affected by Skittertint.
- The suckers of Tentacles may alternate between colors. Tentacles may be dyed a solid color as long as the transition to the body is smooth. You only need one Skittertint per color for any number of Tentacles.
- For Mythic traits, use similar modifiers as a guideline for what can be done.
- Traits affected by Extensions use the regular Skittertint rules.
- You may use a Skittertint to give a treated color to artificial parts. In example, you can make a blue cloth, even though that is not a normal color without dye. This affects all artificial parts with the same material.
- Beaks, horns, hooves, manes, whiskers, fins, claws, and similar structures provided by Physical Traits may be affected by one Skittertint per type. They may be solid or gradient dyed. Only the inside of ears can be affected by Skittertint unless they are from the Odd Ears trait.
- The color of Skittertint will appear over regular scale colors. This means they CAN be applied to color the traits of Albinos, Greying critters, Melanistic critters, and Monochrome critters.
Common Problems:
Below: Skittertint only affects one feature at a time. For example, applying it to a pair of wings will not cause it to appear on the fins of the dragon. You will need one Skittertint per trait, even if they are the same color.
Below: Skittertint does not make adjustments to the shape of the trait. For this sort of change, you would want to use a Surgical Kit. For minor physical changes, a Scalestain also works.
Below: Skittertint does not cause glowing.
