Surgical Kit

Blacksmith Craft, Intermediate: x2 Forged Metal, x2 Scales, x1 Eggs, x1 Oil

Allows you to create large scars or amputate features from the dragon. When amputating, there does not need to be a scar left behind. You can use this method to hide certain modifiers without moving them to recessive. Surgical Kits do not allow for infinite amputations; You will need x1 per allowed modifier and x1 when cutting off one of these areas entirely:

You cannot chop off the dragon’s head–that would need the Mythic Snout trait. You cannot leave only the head. That would take quite a few Mythic traits to manage.

Color Rules

The color of scars will match the color rules of Pollen. Colors must also be consistent across all skin/scar areas. If you would like to rub in colored ink or ash to the scars, then you will need to combine it with paint equal to the area of the scar. Scars created with Surgical Kit will never be bleeding and never show bone underneath.

When amputating a limb, the amputation area does not need to have a scar unless you want there to be one. If you choose to have a scar, it follows the above rules.

Shape

When amputating, you may choose to leave a nub behind. You may also choose to amputate or drastically shape part of a feature–such as removing Leather from Leather Wings and only leaving the fingers behind. You can also remove shapes, such as making a star-shaped hole in Leather Wings. For more interactions with traits, check individual trait pages.

When creating scars, they may be any size. There may be multiple scratches in one scar, as long as the scar looks like it came from one incident (in example: four large scratch marks from one dragon’s slash).  If you want to create scarification effects, Loremarker is the tool for the job.

Edge

When creating scars, the edge of the scars should be smooth, textured, or raised. They will not appear like bruising or blend softly into the scales.

Effect Modifiers

Surgical Kits are not affected by modifiers. However, you can apply Paint in scar-like regions to color them. You will need paint equal to the area of the scar.

Special Interactions

  • Transparent Skin/Translucent - When applied to transparent areas, it will heal over as solid-colored tissue.
  • Magic Effects - You may have scarred areas affected by Magic, if it's available to the dragon. In example, Tier IV fire magic can make a scratch spark and glow with fiery light. For missing/amputated areas, Tier IV fire magic may create a fiery version.

F.A.Q.

Can I use Surgical Kit to make small scars?
You can! Just double-check to see if Loremarker or free scratches works better for you before using a Surgical Kit on the smaller stuff.

Can I use Surgical Kit to remove [insert feature here]?

Check on that individual trait’s page to see if it can be removed.

I want to change the design and add an amputated trait back in. Is that allowed?

Yes, that’s allowed! You may even choose to use the Surgical Kit in another way on the dragon–in example, instead of amputating a tail, you can switch to amputating a wing. Each use of the Surgical Kit is tallied–whether or not you choose to use the effect is up to you, and you can change your mind at any time.

Common Problems

  • Surgical Kit cannot shave off scales or create the effect of Transparent Skin or Pollen.
  • Surgical Kit will not create open wounds.
  • It will not create holes in the dragon’s neck, limbs, or along the spine, even if those holes are healed. Look at specific traits to see if they can have holes via this item.
  • It will not add extra matter (such as extensions on top of wings).
