Elemental Dragons
Animals
Even the Ancestors don’t understand how the elemental dragons were created. Each of them bears a piece of power reminiscent of those ancient creatures. Some say that they sprung into existence through a natural process, just like all other types of Life, while others say they are artificial. After all, dragons are the only known way to navigate the Chronoscape, which makes their appearance alongside the rest of Life awfully convenient. Furthermore, they appear to have a mutual relationship with all other forms of life—something that would be highly difficult to adapt unless these life forms were already around.
In any case, they are living, breathing creatures with a huge dose of power. Dragons will judge the people they interact with until they find someone worthy of becoming a dragon Rider. They then produce an egg which will respond to the energy of their desired Rider. Whether dragons are a set element or whether they develop as they incubate is a complete mystery. Even if someone was heartless enough to break open a dragon egg, they would find it impossible. You could probably chuck them off a cliff without scratching them. What is known is that dragon elements will always complement the personalities of their riders. It’s quite possible that the actions of their Rider are just as important as the intangible bond they share.
Once hatched, the dragons grow to suit their Rider quite quickly. If the Rider has no need of a dragon to ferry them around, that dragon might remain small. If the Rider needs the strongest dragon on the planet, then the dragon will grow massive to carry them as best as possible. They are unable to use words straight out of the egg, instead relying on bursts of emotions or images. As time goes on, they will learn the language of their Riders and communicate more clearly. Some dragons (especially Wind dragons) even learn to speak out loud if they feel the need to talk to other Riders.
Purebred dragons become attached to certain attributes. Fire dragons will become attracted to those filled with a sense of vengeance. Metal dragons are drawn to the pure-hearted. Ocean dragons desire a Rider filled with passion. The list goes on. They all have the ability to master the magical power of their element. Crossbred dragons are far more versatile in their selection and seek out a mix of traits that suits both elements. Check the individual element pages for more information!
