When sleeping, a separate nervous system on its skin that resembles circuitry will take over for the fish. This system can control breathing and swimming mechanics, allowing it to escape unscathed if a predator finds it sleeping. If a predator does manage to chomp down, it experiences a burst of electricity that could stun a whale.
