The Sparknest
Point of Interest inside Shérok
Landmark: Obsidian Ground with Fireworks
The Sparknest is an incredibly peculiar tectonic region in Central Shérok, laying just west of Aviara. It is rich in saltpeter, charcoal, and sulfur--and combined with the high pressure from the magma chamber below, this makes the region highly explosive. The millions of explosions over the years have turned the oldest mountains into curved, cratered remains of what they once were. Each eruption has a unique color and shape and they have been likened to fireworks. While it's possible to travel through the Sparknest by foot, it's highly recommended to take a beast with a heightened sense of smell, as they will detect dangerous fumes before an explosion occurs.
Many dragons can also sense the tremors and leave before danger arrives, and this isn't limited to Elemental Dragons. The Sparknest is well known as a breeding ground for feral dragons. It is one of the few places they can lay their eggs undisturbed by poachers and would-be riders. They choose extinct hollows at high elevations, reducing the risk of relocation. Dragon flocks from this region are named based on the nearest type of spark; In example, the Cerulean Spiral Flock. Intimate observations of the dragons in this region are impossible, so this region is filled with mystery.
