Teteocán

Magical Location

Landmarks: Huge weaver bird nests, Raised Aqueducts, or Multiple Giant Pillar Buildings

Teteocán is a city made of large pillars and aqueducts that stretch across the Chronocompass for ages. Nests are attached to the buildings using nets and anchors to accommodate the large population. The majority of the city is high enough that there is no perceivable ground. There are four different types of pillar districts that are repeated throughout, and the main caretakers have matching speculum feathers.

The first and most wide-spanning type is the Brown District, where the majority of Quetzalcoatl live. This is where merchants, traders, archivists, and the working class make their homes. All clear-feathered and brown-feathered Quetzalcoatl live in these areas. Quetzalcoatl that have honed their magic skill may choose to leave and live closer to work, but many remain with their adopted families in the Brown Districts. Outside of the Brown District, there is no dedicated area to build homes, and emigrants must improvise.

Red Districts are one of the critical areas for the city to function. These are where the hunters, warriors, and military train. It is also where captives are kept when there is a surplus. In order to support the giant city, frequent hunting parties are formed and sent out to the Chronoscape, returning with treasure and whatever living creatures they could herd home. Creatures that satisfy the needs of the Gold Feathermages are set aside for that district. All others are sent on to the Green Districts.

Green Districts make up the second largest chunk of the city. Each green district has a library of venoms that is constantly maintained by green-feathered alchemists. Their main work is processing food–butchering what is sent from the Red districts and then moving it to market. While most Quetzalcoatl do not require anything other than meat and blood, Green Districts are known for their farms and exotic gardens. Any plant could form the basis of a new venom, so they maintain as many species as possible in their chinamitl. These gardens are the reason their districts take up so much space.

After that, Gold Districts make up the rest of the space. In sparsely populated areas of the city, they simply exist as posts within other districts. These are maintained by the gold-feathered soothsayers, priests, lawmakers, and lawkeepers. The hatcheries are located here to keep them as safe as possible. As hatchlings tend to be daring, gold-feathered Quetzalcoatl must be nearby them at all times to prevent disasters. When the hatchlings are deemed mature enough, they are sent to live with new families in the Brown Districts.

Districts may be vertically divided by pillars or horizontally divided by layers across multiple pillars, depending on the needs of the neighborhood. Objects are sent via aqueduct to other pillars and via elevator to other layers. The incredible majority of people living in Teteocán are Quetzalcoatl; Any other species spotted is assumed to be a pet or stray. If unattended, they will likely be eaten. At the base of the pillars in Red Districts, there are posts to interact with Peregrines at their own risk. Peregrines may obtain treasure in exchange for the location of new hunting grounds or do other tasks that the Feathermages might require. All visitors do so at their own peril.
